If you think of Sydney’s ‘City of Villages’ as a living, breathing, pulsating network,
then Darlinghurst is its heartbeat.

Inside the famous walls of the East Village Hotel, we work and play hard to
sustain the Darlinghurst rhythm around the required BPM. But our little hotel is
just one of the vital organs keeping this suburb alive.

It’s the people involved that make Darlinghurst what it is.

If you stood on the stoop of our Palmer Street hotel and threw a pebble south it
might clatter across the rooftop of, say, three of our favourite small bars. By day,
the smell of independent coffee roasters permeates this very block.

At night, an adjoining courtyard becomes an alfresco magnet for Eastern
Suburb’s foodies with a cluster of famous establishments. Down the hill there’s
cracking wine on the pour. A few metres uphill and people spill onto the footpath
from a gallery and theatre.

The East Village blog will be a place where hotel regulars can find out what else
might be happening in this mecca of good times.

We’ll also keep it up-to-date with the latest from the East Village Hotel. You can
expect to hear more about seasonal menus, events, parties, early-bird offers,
wine tastings and beer tests throughout 2013.

According to publican Dylan Fairweather, when the pair took
over the East Village in 2009 they weren’t just enamoured with the charms of
the hotel. Darlinghurst itself has a lot to do with maintaining the pub’s own
heartbeat.

Dylan says despite being so close to the CBD, this neighbourly location makes
you feel that you’ve escaped the hectic city.

“People greet each other on the streets every day and we have so many locals
who keep the vibe welcoming and warm inside the hotel,” he says.

“We’re lucky to be surrounded by great local food in The Republic 2 Courtyard
including Lucio’s Pizzeria, Salvador coffee, King’s Lane Sandwiches, Jazz City Milk
Bar, Phamish and Universal and across the street from us is the busy Artisan
café.

“We’re also in the middle of a creative “precinct” – lots of digital, marketing and
creative agencies whose teams drop in for lunches, Sundowner specials after
work and have client parties in our speakeasy bar Former Glory.”

Keep checking back with us to hear more about our friends and colleagues, their
parties, their businesses and their new unveilings. All of this, you can find just a
stone’s throw from our front bar.
